A community musical event, kirtan is the call and response chanting of sacred names or mantras.
Scott Hestekin started his life in music at the age of 4 after watching Yo-Yo Ma play cello on “Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood.” Although he asked his parents for “What the man on TV was playing,” he got a violin instead. Music has been a part of his life ever since, and along the way, he also picked up the piano, guitar, and mandolin.
Scott has enjoyed sharing his talents with others for decades, and can now be found supporting various Kirtan bands in the Milwaukee area, including Kaita, Ryan Hader, Bhavani, as well as his own project, Satya Jaya Kirtan. He has performed at Yoga Rocks The Park of and Friday Night Yoga Club in Milwaukee, and presented Kirtan with a large band at Milwaukee’s Pridefest.
He and his band, a rotating group of talented musicians, are currently embarking on a year-long city-wide “tour” of Milwaukee area wellness centers and yoga studios, culminating in a performance at Kirtan Fest Milwaukee this summer. He is looking forward to sharing the powerful devotional energy of Kirtan with the Himalayan Yoga and Meditation community!
