Using the whole spine and not overusing the lower back with the Feldenkrais Method
Workshop is designed to help you feel and sense how you may be overusing or misusing your lower back. The lessons are designed to assist you in finding what areas you are holding or bracing that may contribute to discomfort, lack of flexibility and wear and tear on joints.
We will be doing two Awareness Through Movement lessons on the floor while positioned on your back. This is an experiential class. Lessons are gentle and done slowly to respect the way our nervous system learns. It is challenging to “unlearn” habits of holding and bracing as we are usually unaware of them. This leads to us working with more effort to perform an action, or we avoid what is difficult and decrease our movement choices. Learning to become more attentive to what is not easy, and taking the time to sense how we may be in our own way, leads to freedom and ease unattainable with effort. If time allows, I will also be happy to provide some small movements that often relieve back pain.
Mats, blankets and bolsters available at HYM, but feel free to bring your own if you prefer. Please layer your clothes in case you get warm or cool.
Pre-registration is REQUIRED. The minimum number of students must be enrolled by 3/24 or class will be canceled.
Class Fee: $25
