Raja yoga is the classical system of yoga meditation presented in Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras. The practice is presented in eight parts. The goal of yoga meditation is self-realization. This is achieved through the complete integration of the personality as a way to help still the mind and experience our inner-most conscious Self. In the Himalayan Tradition, “the yoga system of Patanjali is a preliminary step accepted by us for the higher practices in our tradition.”
This course is an introduction to the Yoga Sutras and will examine the basics of Patanjali’s system of yoga meditation. These eight parts are essential practices in the meditative path. Each class will include lecture, discussion and guided practice sessions to deepen the meditative experience.
